PCOS: Abigail’s Story

A week ago we met with a beautiful young lady named Abigail for a consult. Abigail, a publicist and brand consultant, was interested in inquiring about Deify’s Medical Spa services. Suffering with a condition known as PCOS, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Abigail contacted us in hopes of finding corrective treatment for imperfections resulting from the symptoms of a health battle she’s faced for some time now.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a disorder that produces hormone imbalances in women. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, PCOS affects 15-20% of women, about 1 in 40 within the ages of 20-40. Under ‘normal’ function, hormones act as chemical messengers that trigger processes throughout the body, with one hormone signaling the release of another. Hormones affected by PCOS, for reasons not yet fully understood, are shifted off balance causing a range of symptoms from acne, weight gain, growth of hair on the face and body as well as thinning hair on scalp, among others. Often times the symptoms start off mild but when left untreated can lead to severe complications. Though the disorder currently remains without cure there are options for correcting and healing the physical scarring of the symptoms.

Abigail’s condition began to surface during her college years, and progressed throughout the years. Suspected of being a genetic condition, some of Abigail’s family members have also suffered with unwanted hair growth in varying degrees. Yet her search for treatment wasn’t sparked until last Winter after visiting a friend she hadn’t seen in a while. Though the friend did not suffer the same condition, she did have similar facial hair growth patterns and had undergone laser hair removal allowing her to exude glowing clear skin. The experience shared on the procedure would move Abigail to action. “That’s what sealed the deal” she says. After years of emotional affects and interferences the condition had caused on her personal life, she began to search for options.

Arriving armed with extensive knowledge on the subject, Abigail had done her research. From treatment options of available and feasible procedures to the very equipment named most suitable for her complexion. In conjunction with a newly adopted change for a healthier lifestyle to help combat the effects of PCOS from the inside out.  It was clear that we were the right fit for Abigail and unbeknownst to her, she was the right fit for us for our passion to help women with such conditions has always been a major focus. In upcoming weeks we will document Abigail’s journey, from the hard moments to the major achievements, displaying beauty in its most raw and praised form.

We all have defects and imperfections, question is, will we dig deep enough to surface the beautiful that lies beyond those scars?
